Johnson County Kansas Genealogical Society General Information |
MembershipMembership is open to all who are interested in genealogy and who share the society's objectives. Annual membership dues are $15.00 for individuals and $20.00 for families. Dues are payable on or before January 1st each year for the calendar year. New members joining after July 1st have the option of paying half the annual rate for that year. MeetingsGeneral meetings of the Society are at 10:00 am on the 4th Saturday of each month, except December, at the Johnson County Central Resource Library, 9875 W. 87th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66212. Visitors are always welcome. Programs are aimed at helping members progress with their individual genealogical research and feature speakers on a variety of related topics. Individual advice and help for beginners is available. One meeting per year is generally set aside for a seminar featuring a nationally-known speaker. The Executive Board meets at 7:00 pm on the second Monday of each month at the library. Members are welcome. LibraryThe J.C.G.S. genealogical library collection is maintained in the Local History and Genealogical area of the Johnson County Central Resource Library. Donations to the collection in the form of books, pamphlets, magazines, manuscripts, family histories, regimental histories, maps, atlases, school yearbooks, photographs, or any other documents of a genealogical or historical nature are welcome. Persons wishing to donate materials may do so by contacting the Society's Librarian. PublicationsThe Society publishes a quarterly magazine, The Johnson County, Kansas Genealogist, in March, June, September and December of each year. One copy of the Genealogist is mailed to each individual or family membership. New members will receive back issues for the year they join at the next regular meeting. New members joining after July 1st and paying half the annual dues will receive only the September and December issues. Issues are mailed third class and will be forwarded if a forwarding notice has been filed with the United States Postal Service by the member. Members should keep the Society advised of changes of address in order to avoid any delay in receipt. Back issues of the Genealogist are available at $3.00 per copy. Submission of original articles suitable for publication is welcome. The Quarterly Editor reserves the decision to publish material and the right to edit as appropriate. Reprinted articles must be accompanied by the publisher's permission to use the article. The deadline for each issue is the regular meeting for the month prior to the month of publication.
